Horizontal Pull Progression - Video of the Week

Tom Oberhue's picture

Recently, IPT coach Dewey Nielsen was featured on StrengthCoach.com with his horizontal pull progression. Way to go Dewey! Excellent work.

His video clip highlights how a basic movement pattern can be modified to create more demand / a bigger challenge by simply changing one variable at at time. It is a great sequence.

Tom Oberhue's picture

Many at IPT have notice that for the better part of two years now, sit-ups and crunches have gone the way of the dinasour. Dr. Stuart McGill's work has a lot to do with this. We need to take special care not to put the lower back into movement patterns that will break it down or cause future pain.

Wow. It has been long time since I've posted. Things have been super busy - the Pan-American BJJ Championships, Sub League events, the Perform Better Fitness Summit, and life in general. I have tons of things I want to post ... I just need to get crackin'.

I'm a HUGE fan of Steven Colbert ... and last night he had Michael Pollan on as his guest. Pollan in the author of Omnivore's Dilemia and, the newly released, In Defense of Food.

Check it out.

Many folks have had cancer affect their life ... either directly are through someone they knew. Earlier this year, IMPACT's Derek Russel was diagnosed with cancer. He has going through chemotherapy now and had good day and not so good days. But he is staying positive and focused on recovering ... he has even made it in a few times to train lightly - that is commitment and love for the sport.

This is one of my FAVORITE mid-day mini-meals. It is a standard in my Sunday food prep ritual.

Power Clean: A Natural Progression

Tom Oberhue's picture

This article took months to write ... and I owe thanks to many people (athletes and friends) for helping with it.

It's our hope that it helps trainers share power cleans with more people ... because we think that they are pretty swell. Enjoy!

Power cleans have a mythical reputation. They are frequently referred to as the “gold standard” of power development training; the thing "real" athletes do; the Holy Grail of strength and conditioning.
