0:32 Garcia pulls guard

0:45 Garcia goes half guard

1:00-1:04 Xande does a great job of controlling top and taking mount

1:10 Garcia escapes via knee-elbow

1:12 Garcia sits up and sweeps Xande

1:46 Xande almost gets the sweep, but settles for a leg attack

I had a close call, we were doing take downs and I was taken down right into mount bottom. For whatever reason, I panicked and it was like my training went out the window. My upper body umpaed one way and my legs went another. I felt something pull slightly. Luckily, it wasn't anything serious.

If the devil is in fact in the details than I spent the weekend with him. Me and the Five Rings Crew (Tom, Eric, Louisa, and Greg) were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to attend both days of the Caio Terra seminar which was hosted by our friends from Gracie Technics Oregon. My fellow training partners knew that I had been looking forward to this opportunity for quite some time, as I have spent countless hours pouring over the many techniques featured on Caio’s recently released half guard DVD. Caio began the seminar in unique fashion, first he lined us all up by belt rank so that he could better judge the students in regards to ability and understanding. Second he threw out 5 different techniques and allowed the students to choose which one he would teach by a majority vote.

On Saturday, August 27, Five Rings Jiu Jitsu and Seaside BJJ co-hosted Xande Ribeiro in Portland. It was a great weekend of Jiu Jitsu.

World Champion Rafael Lovato Jr. shared his interpretation of Jiu Jitsu at the Salem Keizer BJJ Academy on Saturday, March 19. It was three and a half hours a GREAT stuff! ! !

Four Five Rings JJ members headed south to participate: Coach Eric, Coach Aaron, Jessica Sexton, and me. It's the fourth seminar of Rafael's I've attended, and it was far and away the best.

Five Rings Jiu Jitsu keeps getting better and stepping-up its game. On Saturday, November 13, we travelled up to Bonney Lake, WA, and participated in The Revolution Tournament - the biggest tournament in the Northwest. Pound for pound, we ROCKED the tournament.
